The first 29 years, 11 months, 12 days, 12 minutes and 2 seconds..3..
Lets cut right to the chase. Im a musician. Im now 39 years old. Ive been playing piano since I was 9. Lets see.........practice, practice, practice...and oh yeah...more practice. Skip ahead almost 30 years and..
here we are. 39.
Now, if your a struggling musician, as I am, then you already know how dreadfully hopeless it can be at times trying to get someone to pay attention to your music. Or you. Christ, in this day and age for anyone to pay attention to anything for more than 10 seconds would be a feat of unimaginable will.
But there are those that will do it. But you have to search for them. Not just look around a bit. SEARCH.
So now that we're caught up to the present and we've skipped incredible amounts of time and turmoil inbetween, lets take a little look around at where we are shall we?
I am currently living in the state of North Carolina. If your a struggling musician, living here only makes that struggle that much harder. But its easy going here and I can at least hear myself think.
There are some great musicians living here and a few great celebrities have come from here. Why, Ava Gardner, one of the most beloved and immortalized actresses of all time was born right here in my neck of the woods. Literally.
Corrosion Of Conformity or COC as they are affectionately known, a semi-well known band from the 90's is from around here.
Shoot, Daughtry is even from here.
So you see my point? The struggle is hard. But its not impossible.
You have to search for the people that are like you and then keep those people close. You have to learn to trust your instincts. And when to hold your opinion. Especially after a few beers.
Its possible to make it in this business if you give new music a chance to live. Just listen to someones music..give it say..one soild minute of your time. I bet you'll be surprised at what you hear most of the time.
And thats just what I did one day when I came across a young man by the name of Aaron McMullan's music. But i'll save that story for the next blog.
See you then.
